Summer 2014 Update

June is here and folks have been returning to Ann Lake. The loons have returned as well. They were spotted on Mud Bay mid-April and by early June, they were sitting on their nest. The loon buoys are in place so please remind your guests to stay away from the nest. If disturbed, the loons may abandon the nest.

This year’s ALPOA events are on the calendar. The annual meeting will be held at the township park on June 28, the 4th of July parade will be held, and the People, Paddle Power Event will be the first Saturday in August. A new event will be held this year, the Summer Swan Song Soiree will be held Labor Day weekend. Check out the events page for more information

The Invasive Species Committee will continue their shore monitoring activities this summer. Weed sampling is now a biannual event; the next sampling to be completed in 2015.

Addendum – June 20th

On June 19th, many of you might have heard the loons in distress late in the evening. It appears that something attacked the nest during the night. On checking the morning of the 20th, the loons have abandoned the nest.
