Riparian Best Practices

Protect Ann Lake Waters

A home on the water represents a high quality of life to the owner, something one has worked many years to attain. But for the natural world, a waterfront home negatively impacts the ecosystem around it, usually to a greater extent than people realize. Here are the some things you can do to protect Ann Lake.

  1. Limit use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Do not use phosphorus.
  2. Maintain your septic system.
  3. Use native plants.
  4. Clean up lawn clippings and leaves.
  5. Establish greenbelts and rain gardens.
  6. Clean boats and trailers.
  7. Pick up pet waste. Don’t feed the wildlife near the lake.
  8. Don’t litter!
  9. Dispose of or recycle chemicals and hazardous waste properly.
  10. Get involved!
